mindset influences communication

When I spoke on ‘Leading With A Growth Mindset’ for Inspire Group Asia at the Malaysian Insurance Industry’s Webinar, one of the underlying messages was that our mindset greatly influences our interactions and communication. Carol Dweck, in ‘Mindset:The New Psychology of Success’ states that all of us have elements of both the growth and fixed mindsets. In the face of setbacks, where the growth mindset persists, the fixed mindset would give up easily. The growth mindset is more receptive of feedback and criticisms. Communication is greatly enhanced, and outcomes are better. When the world woke up at different times to a profoundly changed reality in this pandemic , it was the strength of the growth mindset amongst others, that propelled most sectors forward to embrace the ‘forced’ change. There was enhanced empathy and understanding for example, when WFH became a big reality. The growth mindset continues to manifest itself with the steady stream of online sharing on best practices from WFH, wellbeing and tech solutions to even lists of online grocers. Make a conscious decision to have a growth mindset when needed.
