It is 2022. The HR Business Partner (HRBP) role has been around for a while now. Yet, in the various HCI Strategic HR programs I facilitate, the biggest gripe amongst senior leaders has been that the majority of HRBPs are not able to or are simply not seen as the trusted business partner. They stress the need for HRBPs to adopt a strategic, consultative mindset.
 
Meanwhile, HR participants, including HRBPs lament that despite their title, they are laden with seemingly endless operational and transactional issues. They are aware that being a collaborative business partner comes with the role. However, their reasons for not doing so range from inexperience, to overwhelming ‘other’ priorities, ignorance on how to be strategic, as well as not having the latitude to do so.
