Embracing the Digital Shift

Was an honour to be keynote speaker for an international group of delegates from the printing industry at Awesome Asia-FAPGA Meet recently. A key development in the industry is the ongoing shift from traditional offset printing to digital. This poses a challenge to an industry that is heavily invested in traditional offset printing.

In the various change management projects and programs I have been involved in, raising awareness on the impact of change is key. This is to enable first and foremost a mindset and emotional shift. My central message was that there is little choice but to evolve to digital for their own sustainability.

IDC, a global market intelligence firm, has projected that by 2024, 70% of global industrial print users will have adopted digital printing technology into their operations. Meanwhile Research and Markets projects that the global digital printing packaging market is set to grow from USD29.4 billion to USD45.1 billion by 2027. The question I threw to the delegates was to ask themselves whether they would like to remain in the 30% or enjoy a tangible growth by being in the 70%.

In managing change, it is always important to look at what is the opportunity cost as well as which side will ensure growth and sustainability, without compromising on integrity and ethics.
